CBAA 2026 Reunion

Calling All Cal Band Alumni! You are cordially invited to attend our traditional biennial reunion dinner and presentation of the Tony Martinez Award the night before Big Game on Friday, November 20, from 6:00-10:00 pm at the UC Berkeley Faculty Club. All alumni are invited to join in the festivities. This is a non-performing event. The highlight of the evening is the presentation of the Tony Martinez Memorial Service Award, which was created by the Cal Band Alumni Association in the mid-1990s to recognize Band Alumni who have made long-term, significant contributions to the Cal Band and/or to band alumni programs. The award is named for Tony Martinez (clarinet ’49, Drum Major ’51), whose lifelong relationship with the Cal Band is credited with helping the Band raise its stature to national significance. Andy LaBatt, Tenor Sax 1990, is the new honoree of the Tony Martinez Memorial Service Award. Congratulations Andy! The award recognizes Andy’s consistent and exemplary service to both the Cal Band and the Cal Band Alumni Association. Highlights of Andy’s tenure include Cal Band Student Director at the Alamo Bowl, serving on the CBAA Council, and performing as an endzone director to this day. Andy was also the Alumni Band Day StuD and the CBAA Performance Committee chair. Andy has worked wonders by organizing performances such as ski trips, Lair Young Alumni Weekends, and break-off bands for Cal Band Alumni. Thank you, Andy, for your tireless work on behalf of the Cal Band Alumni! Please join us in celebrating Andy while reuniting with old friends and meeting new ones. The Cal Band stops by for an extended performance and has been known to ask previous Student Directors to conduct a song! Go Bears!
