Festival of the Irrational by Caterina Fake

During the Festival of the Irrational, dream-engendered objects, music, spells, and artworks will be exhibited and executed, participants and collaborators will join and initiate projects and performances that defy convention and overcome common sense. There will be a series of talks, a live concert, and games of transformation and luck. About the Exhibit: Bed for Reverie is a bed, yes, but a bed as an instrument of magic, a refuge from the modern condition, a metaphorical womb, a portal opening into the chthonic world of mystery, shadow, dream and obscurity. The installation draws from artist Caterina Fake’s research into the mythic figures of Autonoë and Actæon, the magic boxes of Romanian surrealist Victor Brauner, Emily Dickinson’s death and volcano poems, and when people in documentaries have forgotten the camera is still rolling and blurt out the hidden truth. During her residency at Interact Studio, Fake will continue the work begun in her 2025 and 2026 installations Bed for Dreaming, gathering images dreamed, given, found and made, finding ways to leapfrog reality and free us from the discouragements of reason, irrelevancy, and the merchants of doom. Working at the crossroads of visual art, literature, technology and social practice, Fake seeks to liberate, beautify, and bewilder. About Caterina Fake: Caterina Fake is an artist whose career bridges the worlds of art, literature, film, culture, and technology, transgressing the boundaries between myth and machine, art and science, building and dreaming. Honored by Rhizome at the New Museum, with honorary degrees from RISD and the New School, and named to the Time 100, Fake is currently working in installation, painting, performance, writing, and participatory art. She is half of the art collective Fake & Fake.
