Twice a year, one of San Francisco's most fascinating hidden landmarks throws open its doors. Most people have never set foot inside Hunters Point Shipyard — a historic naval base that, for one weekend, becomes the city's biggest art event. A short drive away, the satellite studios at Islais Creek are home to many of the show's sculptors — a chance to see large-scale work being made in the space where it happens. Well worth adding to your route. This fall, wander the working studios of over 130 painters, sculptors, jewelers, ceramicists, photographers, and metalworkers — all in one walkable weekend.
