Full description from organizerShow less
Join us for a conversation as we explore independent school culture, from the admission process to parenting, and more! The power of school and family partnership! What does it mean to raise children in an independent school community — shaped by tradition, evolving practice, and the many families who bring it to life? And what does it mean to do that raising in a world that keeps changing around us? This interactive workshop invites parents and caregivers to explore both sides of that question. We'll start with the data — practical tools for evaluating fit beyond rankings and reputation, so you can find a school that genuinely reflects your family's values. Then we'll turn to the relationship itself: how families and schools share responsibility for belonging, how to strengthen communication and open dialogue, and how to recognize the patterns — welcoming or exclusionary — that shape whether every family in a community actually feels welcomed, respected, and valued. Because finding the right school is only the first step. Pouring back into that community, without falling into the same inequitable or exclusionary patterns many of us are trying to move away from, is the ongoing work. Part of Conversations That Speak, a series created by Ralinda Watts to spark honest dialogue and meaningful connection among prospective, current, and alumni independent school families. WHO THIS IS FOR Parents and caregivers evaluating an independent school community, or already inside one, who want tools for both finding fit and building real, lasting partnership. YOU'LL LEAVE WITH • A data-informed framework for evaluating school fit beyond rankings and reputation• Practical strategies for strengthening communication and partnership with your school community• Language for recognizing and addressing exclusionary patterns, so every family can feel welcome FORMAT In-person, interactive workshop with shared reflection and conversation. Part of the Conversations That Speak series.
