InterAct Open Mic with Readings from Magpie On the Gallows Contributors

InterAct Open Mic at Satori Arts. FREE community poetry jam featuring editor and contributor readings from Magpie On the Gallows anthology. Are you ready to get your poetry on? Join us on Nov 3, 2026 at Satori Arts for InterAct, a FREE open mic night, from 7-9 pm, featuring readings from editor and contributors of Magpie On the Gallows anthology. Magpie on the Gallows: Poems on the Art of Bosch and Bruegel collects famous and newly minted poems on the art of Hieronymus Bosch and Pieter Bruegel the Elder. These painters from the Northern Renaissance are startlingly relevant today, with their critiques of authorities, exposure of church hypocrisies, and assault on holier-than-thou judgments. Though the artworks were created in the 1500s — featuring surrealistic scenes from dreams and nightmares, illustrations of ancient proverbs, and close examination of natural landscapes and peasant life — they still mesmerize. Combining well-known poems by Sylvia Plath, W. H. Auden, William Carlos Williams, Sandra Gilbert, Czesław Miłosz, and Robert Hass with work by some of today’s finest poets — Mosab Abu Toha, Charles Simic, Kimiko Hahn, Kaveh Akbar, Rae Armantrout, and Traci Brimhall, among others — this anthology will delight fans of the artists, readers of poetry, and anyone trying to comprehend our mad (and maddening!) world. Join co-editor David Allen Sullivan and contributors Dion O'Reilly, Addie Mahmassani, Wilma Marcus Chandler, Jessica Breheny, Nancy Miller Gomez, Taylor Gorman, Ken Weisner and Maggie Paul as they read from the anthology. Come share your spoken word work or poetry with the community, or come out to support our local readers! Sign up to read starting at 6:30 pm. Limited seating.
