Pocket Familiar Craft Night

A craft night lead by tinyartproject founder Iris focusing on basic sewing and pocket familiar making! if you've been to wood in the past year, you may have seen a little pink bubblegum machine full of tiny stuffed animals. i'd love to invite you to bring your inner child out to play, and join me in the weird wonderful world of creating pocket familiars :) i'm iris (they/them) and i run tiny art project, a small collection of vending machines dispensing queer trans art made by me and other local artists! FAQ 1. what is a pocket familiar? a pocket familiar is a tiny protective companion, usually made of felt, beads, embroidery, and magic. familiars can take many forms! from earthly creatures to mystical hybrids to beings that no one ever thought of, even you, until it was created with your hands. it could be a cat with stars on its face, a frog with wings, a spiky blob that makes people say, "is that a hedgehog or a puffer fish?" to which you reply, "i dont know." 2. is this a structured class? it's more of a choose-your-own-adventure! i will be providing support and guidance to help folks learn simple stitches and sewing techniques. there will be a follow-along demo in the beginning, and then i'll be roaming to answer any questions. during the demo, i'll ask folks to keep noise levels down so that people can hear if they want to, but you're so welcome to freely roam and use the materials without tuning into the demo :) this is a neurodivergent-led workshop, so follow your bliss and don't worry about offending me by ignoring me, walking/standing instead of sitting, or hyperfocusing on your independent project :3 play, explore, experiment, try something new, be vulnerable, make something ugly/silly/strange, be "bad" at something and have fun doing it <3 this workshop is about the process, not the outcome!! but tbh the outcome is pretty cute. 3. who is this for? this workshop is great for recovering perfectionists and control freaks (i see you, i am you) bc you will be collaborating with the materials to bring your familiar to life. you might set out to make a cat and it ends up looking like a bunny. familiars will become whoever they want to become, and whoever you need :) we're just here to help them find their form! this workshop is geared towards beginners with options for more experienced sewists. all ages welcome. 4. will the coffee shop sell drinks & snacks during the event? yes! special vip after-hours access hehe 5. can i make more than one familiar? yes! you're welcome to use the materials to test things out or make multiple little guys within the time frame of the workshop :) 6. what is the cost & what is included? all sewing tools, fabrics, and embellishments will be provided including options to turn your familiar into a magnet, pin, or bag charm! suggested $15-30 with 20% being donated to gaza mutual aid (donation will be posted for transparency on ig @ilytinyartproject) space is limited to ensure everyone gets support! rsvp to secure your spot <3 7. contact info! please email [email protected] or message @ilytinyartproject on instagram with access needs, accommodations, or any questions! i'm autistic so dont worry if your question feels too weird to ask, i've probably asked something similar or held myself back from asking something similar cause i was too anxious! pls feel encouraged to reach out :) can't wait to play together <3 love, iris from tiny art project
