Sun Printing with Plants Workshop

Learn about local plants and sun printing in this hands-on, educational workshop. Cyanotype, often called sun printing, is one of the earliest forms of photography, dating back to 1842. The chemicals used during this process react with UV light from the sun to create a vibrant cyan-blue color, leaving white behind where objects were placed during the reaction. This process takes some special knowledge and technique. Join UF/IFAS Extension Sarasota County and Sarasota Bay Estuary Program for a lesson in sun printing, where we will show you how to use local plants to create custom prints on t-shirts. Instructors: • Jackie Lebouitz, chemicals in the environment agent, UF/IFAS Extension Sarasota County • Sophie Campbell, science and outreach specialist, Sarasota Bay Estuary Program Cost: This workshop has a $10 registration fee to cover costs for materials and refreshments. Please bring your own t-shirt for sun printing or purchase a t-shirt add-on ticket at registration for an additional $10.
