Engage with Seattle civic leaders as they look back on successful civic efforts and how we can bring forward their lessons. Seattle civic leaders former Mayor Greg Nickels and former Councilmember Sally J. Clark will look back on historical civic efforts that have worked, such as Forward Thrust, the waterfront, marriage equality, METRO, Century21, and Olmsted parks in this panel discussion moderated by HistoryLink Board Member Sandeep Kaushik. Learn how we can bring forward lessons from these successful civic efforts into the present. About Meet Me @HistoryLink For eight years now, HistoryLink has enjoyed the incredible views and vibes of Pike Place Market from our office space at the corner of 1st and Pike. Meet Me @HistoryLink is a new series of intimate programs we are hosting in our office this year that celebrate every corner of Washington history. Our goals are simple - meet new people and have a little fun! About Our Hosts Greg Nickels served eight years as the 51st Mayor of Seattle from January 1, 2002, through December 31, 2009. He is known as a leader in climate protection and was appointed by Barack Obama as alternate representative to the United Nations. Sally J. Clark served on Seattle's City Council from 2006-2015 and currently serves as the University of Washington's director of regional and community relations. While on the Council, she served as the chair of the Committee on Housing Affordability, Human Services, and Economic Resiliency. Sandeep Kaushik has broad experience in political and public affairs consulting work in Seattle. In addition to his extensive public relations, political communications and strategic advisory work for elected officials and civic leaders, governments and non-profits, he has worked on multiple political campaigns in the Northwest, including numerous issue and ballot measure campaigns. His current practice includes dealing with complicated, high profile policy issues in Seattle, including affordable housing, issues around ridesharing services, short-term rental regulation, transit funding and universal pre-K.
