Ruckus

An evening of art, dance, and music guided by choices made by the audience. Time to cause a Ruckus. For our first official performance as Hubbub Dance Company, we invite you to return to the home of BKirk Dance’s first performance — Yuan Ru Art Center — and join us at Ruckus. At a recent performance, I watched a percussionist play a red balloon as an instrument. This got me thinking: if you gave a balloon to a dancer, the goals, interaction, and end result would differ wildly. Thus came the inspiration for Ruckus. This performance will bring together dance, music, and visual art for an evening of audience-driven improvisation. Surrounded by an array of props, audience members will be invited to choose which props the dancer(s) and musician get to use and when it’s time to shift to another. While the choice of how items are used belong to the performers, the trajectory of the performance rests in the hands of each individual audience member. A visual artist will be live painting in response to what they’re hearing and seeing in the performance. Canvases will be available for audience members to create their own visual response to their experience. We invite you all to come cause a ruckus with us.
