Saturday DNA! Regeneron - A Clue in the Crime

Can you solve the crime before the trail goes cold? Join us at the Regeneron DNALC and unlock the secrets hidden in DNA! Ever wonder how crime investigators utilize the power of DNA to solve a crime? A crime has rocked the DNALC! Someone stole vital lab reagents—and we need help to solve the mystery. Join us at the DNALC in this thrilling, hands-on science lab, where students become forensic investigators using DNA Fingerprinting with Restriction Enzymes to crack the case. Three suspects. One crime. Only the DNA holds the truth. Participants will: • use restriction enzymes to cut DNA at specific sequences; • run gel electrophoresis to create DNA fingerprints; • analyze banding patterns to match DNA evidence to a suspect; and • learn how molecular biology tools are used in real-world crime-solving. Ages 12-14. Chaperone participation is welcome (chaperones must purchase their own ticket), but not required.
