Beyond Weight Loss: The Metabolic Revolution in Medicine- 5.75 IPCE credits

CME event focused on obesity's shift to chronic disease; explores evolving treatments, optimal use, outcomes, and multidisciplinary care. Our understanding of obesity has evolved significantly from the perils of excess adiposity to acknowledging that it is a chronic, relapsing, multifactorial disease that leads to poor metabolic health and systemic complications. In addition, with multiple FDA-approved weight-loss medications now in high demand, the landscape of obesity treatment has expanded and evolved rapidly over the past few years. Who should take medication? Who should have surgery? When are combination therapies necessary? What level of weight loss is best? Beyond weight loss, what metabolic targets and other outcomes should we expect from these treatments? Which patient populations have unique considerations? This symposium will address these questions with a variety of clinical presentations, panel discussions, and case studies. We will also examine the best strategies to engage and align multidisciplinary providers, given the medical complexity of patients who have multiple obesity-related conditions. This educational program is designed primarily for healthcare professionals. Members of the public with an interest in the subject are also welcome to register and attend. CME credit is available only to eligible healthcare professionals in accordance with accreditation requirements. Objectives: Discuss a foundational overview of obesity as a chronic disease and its link to metabolic dysfunction and other chronic diseases. Review current evidence-based lifestyle, medical, endoscopic, and surgical treatments, how to integrate them, and how to tailor them to different populations. Identify and apply practical tools to optimize glycemic control and weight management, including what to do when surgery or GLP-1 therapy falls short. All other members of the healthcare team, including PTs, RDs, RDTs, Podiatrists, Residents, Fellows, and Medical Students, are invited to attend.
