From the syncopated rhythms of ragtime to the emerging language of early jazz, the trio explores the composers, songs, and styles that laid the foundation for generations of American music. Blending historical repertoire with the energy and spontaneity of live performance, Grooves Trio brings this pivotal era to life with a program that celebrates the roots of jazz, the evolution of the American groove, and the enduring influence of these early innovators. Brian Holland (piano) Steve Pikal (bass) Danny Coots (drums) “Exciting, exhilarating, and exhausting!” is probably the best (and most alliterative) way to describe this mighty trio. It began with Danny Coots and Brian Holland getting together after performing individually on the Jazz and Ragtime circuits honing their skills on drums and piano, respectively. Since joining forces, they’ve been on a mission to introduce audiences all over the world to their style of music and fun. With a delightful mix of jazz, blues, stride, boogie, pop, and ragtime, Holland & Coots have created something for every taste. Then the duo added bassist Steve Pikal and created Groovus, which made their performances even more fun than before – and, yes, it’s possible!
