Magos Herrera Presents: Antonio Carlos Jobim at 100

Part of the TJF2027 Downtown Jazz Hop: Catch a set, explore downtown Tucson, grab dinner or a drink, then hop to another concert as four unique venues, TOPAZZ restaurants and bars, and live jazz throughout downtown come together for one unforgettable opening night. Antonio Carlos Jobim transformed the sound of modern music. As the composer of timeless classics including The Girl from Ipanema, Corcovado, Wave, Desafinado, and One Note Samba, his elegant melodies and unmistakable Brazilian rhythms helped create bossa nova and forever changed the language of jazz. In celebration of what would have been Jobim's 100th birthday, internationally acclaimed vocalist Magos Herrera presents a deeply personal tribute to one of the twentieth century's most beloved composers. Described by NPR as an artist who "gets way under the skin of the song, recalling great communicators like Edith Piaf or Billie Holiday," Herrera has become one of today's foremost interpreters of Latin American song. Joined by guitarist Vinicius Gomes, bassist Matt Penman, and drummer Alex Kautz, her quartet brings warmth, sophistication, and lyrical beauty to Jobim's music, honoring its timeless elegance while revealing fresh emotional depth. Set within the intimate surroundings of The Grand Tucson, this special evening invites audiences to experience the enduring magic of Brazil's greatest songwriter through one of contemporary jazz's most captivating voices. "You can now declare Magos Herrera to be one of the greatest contemporary interpreters of song." — Latin Jazz Network
