Full description from organizer

Uncover haunted legends, hunt for hidden truths, and turn Tucson's spooky past into an unforgettable historical downtown family adventure! Sunday Matinee: A Spooky Journey Through 250 years of Tucson's haunted history and One mile of mysteries. Countless stories waiting to be uncovered! Gather your curious minds and adventurous spirits for a family-friendly journey through downtown Tucson, where history comes alive, legends linger, and the past still has a few secrets to share. Whether you believe in ghosts or simply love a good mystery, this walking tour invites you to follow the clues, explore the stories, and discover the fascinating truths buried beneath Tucson’s haunted past. Our adventure begins at El Presidio Plaza, beside the El Conquistador statue, near the birthplace of Tucson’s modern history in 1775. From there, we’ll travel through time, visiting historic landmarks where the lives, legends, tragedies, and triumphs of generations past remain woven into the fabric of our community. Our first stop is the third Pima County Courthouse, built upon the historic foundations of Tucson’s Presidio. Here, we’ll explore the darker side of law and order, uncovering tales of justice, tragedy, and the restless history surrounding one of downtown’s most storied locations. Next, we’ll visit the Pioneer Hotel, the courthouse’s architectural companion, before stepping into Tucson’s golden age of entertainment at the magnificent Fox Theatre. From courtroom drama to theatrical spectacle, every stop reveals another chapter in the story of a growing desert town. At Charlie Brown’s House, we’ll explore the beginnings of Arizona’s state and local governments, the fascinating story of Clara Brown, and the legacy of Mayor Levi Manning. The connections between these historic figures reveal how personal ambitions, changing laws, and unexpected turns of fate helped shape the Tucson we know today. We’ll then journey past the site of the former Santa Rita Hotel, tracing connections to Mayor Manning and the early days of Tucson’s electric trolley system. From there, we’ll discover the Rialto Theatre, Tucson’s first movie palace, and cross the street to the legendary Hotel Congress, where history, notorious characters, and unforgettable stories converge. Our final destination is the Southern Arizona Transportation Museum and historic railroad station, the setting associated with Wyatt Earp’s pursuit of Frank Stilwell following the gunfight at the O.K. Corral. Here, we’ll bring our journey through Tucson’s past to a close with one of the Old West’s most enduring stories. Throughout the tour, we’ll look beyond the ghost stories to uncover the people, events, and community connections that gave these legends life. Because sometimes the most fascinating discovery isn’t whether a ghost is real, but the truth that inspired the story—and what that truth can teach us about ourselves. We don’t just hunt ghosts. We hunt the gold buried in their stories! Parking made easy The Pennington Street Garage, conveniently located across from the bus station, sits between the beginning and end of our walking route. It offers a well-lit place to park for a fee, making it a practical option for guests joining us for this downtown adventure. Come curious, bring your sense of wonder, and get ready to discover the history that walks among us!
