Tuesday night online Orientation Session with Saturday & Sunday AFTERNOON riding sessions This course is the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's Basic RiderCourse (BRC1). The BRC1 is a group lesson motorcycle safety training course. More information about the BRC1 is on the BRC1 page of our website. https://theridingacademyofnj.org/beginner-brc1-1 As stated on the BRC1 page of our website, there are two modules (parts) to this course. Module 1 - you take a 5-hour (average time) Pre-Course Assignment called the MSF eP1x11 eCourse , on your own, at your own pace, which familiarizes you with the basic physical & non-physical motorcycle riding skills. This module must be completed before the first riding session of Module 2. When you complete the MSF eP1x11 eCourse, you will receive a Completion Certificate. Either print, download or take a picture of the Completion Certificate. More details about the MSF eP1x11 eCourse are on the BRC1 page of our website. Module 2 - you attend approximately 10 hours of practice riding conducted over the course of two consecutive days for 5 hours per day. (You must take both riding sessions and the riding sessions must be taken on the two consecutive days for the class. You can't do one riding session on one day of the class and the other riding session on another day of another class unless you pay the full course price for both classes). More details about the riding sessions are on the BRC1 page of our website. Time Schedule Module 1 - the MSF eP1x11 eCourse. Do it as soon as you can, on your own, at your own pace, preferably 30 days before the first riding session of Module 2. The link to the MSF eP1x11 eCourse will be in the Registration Confirmation email/tickets you will receive from Eventbrite, our registration platform, as soon as you register for this course. (Item #3 under "Additional Information"). You can also click MSF eCourse to access the link. If you register additional people for the class, you will have to forward the confirmation email and all the automated emails from Eventbrite to them. Module 2 - the 2-day practice riding sessions. The first riding session starts promptly on Saturday at 12:30 pm and goes to approximately 7:00 pm. The second riding session also starts promptly on Sunday at 12:30 pm and goes to approximately 7:00 pm on the dates posted for this class. Arrive at 12:15 pm on both days to sign in, ride the bicycle and get a helmet if you need one. If you arrive at the registration desk after 12:30 pm, you will be dismissed from the class with a partial refund. The practice riding sessions are held at MSU's Lot 60 located at 35 Clove Rd in Little Falls. The course begins with a 1 1/2 hour remote/virtual/online Orientation Session on the Tuesday date posted for this class at 6:00 PM. This session will properly prepare you for Module 2, the riding sessions. It will cover the riding gear required for the riding exercises, questions about the MSF eP1x11 eCourse, the Liability Waivers that need to be signed before the first riding session, the riding exercises, the Knowledge Test, the Skill Test, making an appointment with the NJ MVC to get your motorcycle endorsement, and answer any questions you may have. The link to the Orientation Session will be sent in an email three days before the Tuesday date posted for this course. A reminder email will be sent one day before the Tuesday date posted for this course. A reminder text will be sent the morning of the scheduled Orientation Session provided you put your cell phone number on the Order Form. THE ORIENTATION SESSION IS ONLINE DONE AT YOUR LOCATION (YOUR HOME, YOUR OFFICE, ETC.). This email and additional informative emails are sent as automated group emails by Eventbrite. If you are not getting the automated group emails, it could be for the following reasons; a) One of your email addresses was incorrect on the Order Form. b) Your Spam or Security settings are either sending the group automated emails to your Spam or Junk folder or deleting them. c) You may have unsubscribed from a marketing email from Eventbrite. If you are not getting the automated group emails, send us a different email address and we will add it to the Eventbrite system so you receive the remaining group emails. FAQs Will I get a motorcycle license taking this course? Yes, if you successfully complete the entire course and have a NJ Driver License. Do I need any experience using a clutch before taking this course? No, but it helps. Using the clutch & throttle on a motorcycle require coordination. If you have no clutch or shifting experience, we strongly recommend taking an IME session (Introductory Motorcycle Experience) before your scheduled BRC1 class. More information about the IME is on the IME page of our website. Taking an IME increases your chances of successfully completing the BRC1. Is there a minimum age requirement to take the BRC1? Yes. The minimum age to take the course is 17 and you must have a NJ Driver License. If you are 17, a parent or guardian must sign the Waiver for Minors section on each of the two Indemnity Waivers on the first day of the riding sessions in the presence of one of our instructrors. More details about what is needed to take the BRC1 are on the BRC1 page of our website. What if I don't have all the proper riding gear/clothing for both riding sessions? You will be sent home with a partial refund (as stated in our Refund Policy) and you'll have to register for another course at the full course price. What to wear for the riding sessions is posted on the BRC1 page of our website. What if it rains on the days of the practice riding sessions? The class is held rain or shine. Bring rain gear to keep you dry (rain jacket, rain pants, waterproof shoes, waterproof gloves or wear latex gloves under your gloves). If we see you shivering (a sign of hypothermia), you will be sent home with a partial refund (as stated in our Refund Policy) and you'll have to register for another course at the full course price. You start to lose control of your body if you have hypothermia. What if I arrive late for a riding session? If you arrive at the registration desk after the Start Time for the course, you will be sent home with a partial refund (as stated in our Refund Policy) and you'll have to register for another course at the full course price. We start each riding session on time by reading safety rules that you can't miss for liability reasons. You may also lose your spot to someone who is waiting at MSU as a Stand-by. What is your Refund Policy? Here's our Refund Policy, which is posted on the Refunds page on our website under "Policies" and which you will acknowledge that you read and agree to when registering for the course. It will also be in the confirmation email. Refunds are issued for the following; 1. Cancelling/Not Able to Attend Your Class If you decide to cancel your BRC1 class registration/ticket purchase or can't attend your BRC1 class, for whatever reason, you must notify us by email ([email protected]), for verification purposes, at least 10 days before the start of your scheduled class to receive a full refund of the course price. (The Start Date for the BRC1 is a Tuesday). If you notify us by email less than 10 days before the start of your scheduled BRC1 class, you will automatially receive a partial refund of $185. There are no exceptions. Rain - classes are conducted rain or shine. If rain is in the forecast for the class you registered for, bring rain gear (rain jacket, rain pants, waterproof shoes, waterproof gloves or latex gloves to wear under your gloves) to stay dry.
