Become a Virginia Licensed Teacher in Less Than 30 Days - In Person

A 30-day intensive helping bachelor’s-degree holders navigate Virginia teacher licensure and move toward paid classroom roles. Virginia needs more qualified elementary and special education teachers, but for many aspiring educators—especially those entering teaching outside of a traditional college teacher-preparation program—the licensure process can be confusing, fragmented, and difficult to navigate. This pathway is designed for individuals who already hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Virginia’s approved alternate-route programs allow qualified bachelor’s-degree holders to work toward teacher licensure without returning to college to complete a traditional education degree. This practical intensive is designed to help prospective Virginia teachers understand exactly what they need to do to move toward licensure without losing months trying to piece the process together on their own. Participants will learn how to identify the appropriate licensure pathway, understand required testing and coursework, complete mandatory training requirements, organize licensure documentation, and create a personalized 30-day action plan. Special attention will be given to Elementary Education PK–6 and Special Education pathways, where Virginia continues to have significant staffing needs. For eligible candidates, completing the requirements for an approved alternate route can position them to be hired by a participating Virginia school division into a full-time classroom teaching position under a provisional license while they complete the remaining requirements for a renewable license. A Virginia provisional license is a valid teaching license that permits the holder to serve as the teacher of record. Once hired as a teacher, candidates are placed on the employing school division’s teacher salary scale based on that division’s compensation policies, including factors such as prior qualifying teaching experience and educational attainment. In other words, an alternate-route teacher is entering as a paid teacher—not as a student teacher, substitute, or unpaid intern. The program is led from both an HR and candidate perspective, addressing not only licensure requirements but also the gaps that can occur between prospective teachers, preparation programs, school divisions, HR departments, and hiring administrators. Participants will leave with greater clarity about: • The Virginia licensure pathway that applies to them • What requirements must be completed before employment • What requirements may be completed after receiving a provisional license • Praxis and Teaching Reading testing requirements • Alternative-route programs such as iteach • Required Virginia trainings and documentation • How to organize and track licensure requirements • How to communicate more effectively with HR and hiring administrators • Study and testing strategies • How completing the pathway can position them for a full-time paid teaching position • A personalized plan for the next 30 days After the intensive, participants may continue through a weekly licensure coaching community designed to provide accountability, study strategies, troubleshooting, and ongoing support as they complete their requirements and move toward the classroom. Important: This program does not guarantee that the Virginia Department of Education will issue a teaching license within 30 days or that a school division will offer employment. The intensive is designed to help eligible participants understand and complete the licensure requirements within their control as efficiently as possible and clearly identify any remaining requirements that depend on an employing school division, preparation program, or VDOE.
