Full description from organizer

AMERICA 500: A Solo Exhibition by Morgan Overton Opening Reception: Saturday, November 7, 2026 | 6–9 PM On View: November 7, 2026 – January 9, 2027 Atithi Studios | Pittsburgh, PA --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- America 500: A Solo Exhibition by Morgan Overton What might America look like 250 years from now? As the United States commemorates 250 years since the Declaration of Independence, America 500 looks another 250 years ahead. Through graphite, watercolor, cyanotype, and mixed media, Pittsburgh-based multidisciplinary artist Morgan Overton imagines futures shaped by Black self-determination, ancestral memory, and Afrofuturist possibility. Rooted in Overton’s background in social work, psychology, and political leadership, the exhibition explores beyond the nation’s promises and envisions life on the symbolic mountaintop that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke of. Collapsing past, present, and future into a shared continuum, America 500 presents Black life as a force shaping what comes next. The exhibition invites viewers to consider the futures we might create through collective agency, care, and imagination. Join us for the opening reception to meet the artist, experience the exhibition, and gather for an evening of art, conversation, and connection. Free and open to the public. RSVP encouraged. About the Artist - HOME | Morgan Overton Morgan Overton is a multidisciplinary figurative artist who lives and works in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Through watercolor, graphite, cyanotype, and layered mixed media, Morgan creates meditative compositions of Black figures in states of psychological and emotional freedom, embodying sovereignty and self-determination. Morgan’s work is deeply grounded in her background in psychology, social work, and political leadership and asks: What does Black interior liberation look like without the external constraints of historic and systemic oppression? Overton combines historical and archival research, elements of the natural world, and symbolic storytelling to carry a duality of ancestral memory and Afrofuturism—centering Black humanity, lineage, and becoming as sacred and transcendent across time. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including the United States Capitol Russell Senate Building in Washington, D.C., Carnegie Museums, Erie Art Museum, Spectrum Miami Art Fair, Arts Council Fayetteville, August Wilson African American Cultural Center, Paris-New York Heritage Festival, and the London Art Biennale. Her artist residencies include the School of Visual Arts in New York City, University of Pittsburgh’s Frederick Honors College Democracy in Focus, and the August Wilson House. Overton holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Studio Arts and a Master of Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh.
