Echoing J.S. Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier, renowned harpsichordist and composer JANINE JOHNSON gives the premier performance of her vividly programmatic set of Preludes and Fugues. Written as a personal musical diary during the transformative year 2020, The Therapeutic Harpsichord gives musical shape to the shifting emotional landscape of that time - the sense of solitude and disquiet together with the unexpected flashes of joy in nature and the daily pleasures of life. This is the second of three concerts in Festival Capriccio 2026's Counterpoints Cycle. The Cycle presents a kaleidoscope of harpsichord music written across the centuries - from the Baroque to the 20th century to our contemporary times - highlighting the instrument's versatility and expressive voice. Across the three concerts, these different eras of music meet, echo, and illuminate one another, revealing unexpected connections.
