She is a senior correspondent at Vox and lives in Brooklyn. Karen Bloom Gevirtz has been working at the intersection of science and the humanities since college at Brown University, where she was an English major and a research assistant in a neurochemistry lab. After earning a PhD at Emory University, she spent almost 30 years in academia as an English professor, affiliated with programs in Women and Gender Studies and in Medical Humanities.
