The Secret Cinema: Scary FIlms

The Secret Cinema presents a special evening of scary films in the Allens Lane Art Center theater. Celebrate spooky season with The Secret Cinema! Come ready for chills, surprises, and a journey into the darker corners of Philadelphia’s beloved repertory film scene. The Secret Cinema will be screening curated eerie short films and the 1939 Boris Karloff classic, The Man They Could Not Hang. Karloff plays a scientist who develops a machine that can bring dead people back to life. He demonstrates it by killing his willing medical-student assistant, intending to revive him—but the police arrive before he can complete the experiment. Karloff is convicted of murder and executed...and then, naturally, comes back from the dead himself and starts taking revenge on everybody who convicted him. This unintentional comedy is a dead-serious presentation of an increasingly preposterous story featuring mad-scientist machinery, melodrama, and Karloff plotting elaborate revenge. FRIDAY, October 23, 8:00 PM Recommended Ages: 13+ BYO Food and Drink Doors open at 7:30 pm Tickets: $15 online | $20 at the door
