Mom's Market: A Food Fair Experience for Single Moms

Free weekly evening food fair for single working moms. Every Tuesday, 4 to 7pm, on Lenore Street in northwest Detroit. Mom's Market is a free, weekly food fair created specifically for single working moms, hosted every Tuesday by SDM2 Project Education in partnership with Metro Food Rescue and Food Rescue US Detroit. Starting Monday, May 5th, we're setting aside space just for you, because the women holding down a job and a household deserve to be seen, celebrated, and taken care of. This time slot exists because you cannot always make it to a food fair in the middle of the day. If you are a single mom clocking in during regular business hours, Tuesday evenings on Lenore are built around your schedule, not the other way around. Every week, you'll walk through and select fresh produce, bread, prepared foods, pantry staples, and more, rescued from waste and brought directly to your neighborhood. This is not a waiting line. This is not a bag shoved in your hands at the door. This is a market experience where you move at your own pace, choose what your family needs, and leave with a full cart and your dignity intact. SDM2 has been doing this work on Lenore Street for years. Tuesdays on Lenore have always been a shopping day for the community. Mom's Market is that same spirit, with a dedicated hour built for the working single moms in this neighborhood. Not a single working mom, but still in need of food? SDM2's daytime food fair takes place every week at 1:00 PM and is open to everyone in the community. Mom's Market is reserved specifically for single moms who work and cannot attend during the day, so the daytime fair is the right fit if that describes you or your household. What to Expect Fresh and rescued groceries available for you to browse and select. Music. Community. Space to breathe. A neighborhood that shows up for itself every single week. What to Bring Bring a wagon, rolling cart, or large bags to carry your groceries home. The more space you have, the more you can take. Registration Registration is free and required. When you register, you'll share how many children are in your household so we can plan accordingly. This event recurs every Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM beginning Tuesday, May 6th, 2025.
