About this event

An easy two hour stroll through a part of North Kensington/Notting Hill that was almost completely transformed by 1960s slum clearance We will look at old photos of the area, some of which are featured in my book, The Other Side of Notting Hill, to see how it has changed since the 1950s and 60s. The area, traditionally known as Kensal Town, also featured in the 1950s photographs of the famous street photographer, Roger Mayne, Alan Johnson's autobiography 'This Boy', and countless films and TV programmes as will be explained on the walk. I'll also talk about how the area was developed from farmland in the nineteenth century and how it was affected by events such as the London blitz, the Notting Hill riots and the murder of Kelso Cochrane. You can buy a copy of my book at the same time for only an additional £12.00 (it's currently £16.68 on Amazon) and I'll bring it with me on the day. The walk is limited to 15 people only .
