SAT03: Building Civic Infrastructure for Collective Futures

Architecture Otherwise brings together architects, artists, designers, researchers, writers and practitioners whose work engages with the social, ecological, cultural and political conditions through which spaces and communities are produced. Rather than approaching architecture solely as the design and construction of buildings, SAT03 asks how architectural practice can generate new forms of care, solidarity and collective life in response to conditions of rapid urbanization, environmental change, conflict and displacement. The opening programme, running from 14 November 2026 to 19 November 2026, will bring together a diverse series of conversations, lectures, workshops, screenings, tours and other activations across Sharjah, introducing the practices and ideas that shape the third edition of the Triennial. Sharjah Architecture Triennial (SAT) is a platform for architecture and urbanism in a region extending from West and South Asia to North and East Africa. Physically anchored in Sharjah and the United Arab Emirates, SAT engages diverse audiences and stakeholders in conversations around architecture at the neighbourhood, city and regional levels. Through exhibitions, publications, research, public programmes and community-based activities, the Triennial creates spaces for critical reflection on the social, cultural, environmental and economic conditions that shape the built environment.
