Salon des Refusés 2026 The alternative Archibald and Wynne Prize selection Returning to Adelaide exclusively at David Roche Gallery, Salon des Refusés features over 50 remarkable works of portrait and landscape paintings. Known as the popular alternative to the esteemed Archibald and Wynne Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Salon des Refusés features work not selected for the official exhibition but rather those recognised for their quality, diversity and experimentation, offering insight into contemporary art practices, different approaches to portraiture and responses to the Australian landscape. The Salon des Refusés was initiated by the S.H. Ervin Gallery in 1992 in response to the large number of works entered in the Archibald Prize that were not selected for display in the official exhibition. The Salon - which takes its name from the renegade French Impressionists of the 1860s who held a breakaway exhibition from the French Academy - is the ‘alternative’ selection to the official Archibald and Wynne Prize selections at the Art Gallery of NSW. The Archibald Prize is one of Australia’s most high profile and respected awards which attracts hundreds of entries each year and the S.H. Ervin Gallery’s ‘alternative’ selection has become a much-anticipated feature of the Sydney scene. Now touring at David Roche Gallery 14 August to 24 October 2026 Tuesday to Saturday 10:00am–4:00pm *Please note that this ticket does not include entry to Fermoy House. To view the House and Collection, you must purchase a Guided House Tour ticket which includes entry to the exhibition. Parking Limited free parking is available onsite for visitors to David Roche Gallery. Disabled Access Disabled car parking is available. The gallery accommodates wheelchair access however, mobility scooters are not suitable. Both ambulant and non-ambulant toilets are available.
