But what sits behind these platforms, and what might their growing influence mean for future access to housing? Professor Roger Burrows follows the money and data behind some of the major apps young Australians use every day — from CommBank and Afterpay to CoinSpot and Polymarket. He explores who owns them, where the money goes, what these platforms learn about their users, and how these emerging digital financial lives may ultimately shape access to credit, renting and homeownership. Drawing on new research with young Australians, this talk reveals the increasingly blurred boundaries between fintech, financial inequality and the housing futures of a generation.
