Full description from organizerShow less
Celebrating books and reading, Books on Bywong is a regular event for book lovers hosted by Sally Wilson. Each month a guest author takes readers behind the scenes of their book, discussing their inspiration, writing process and publishing journey, as well as their top reading recommendations. There is no obligation to have read the book, simply come along to enjoy the bookish conversation, pick up some new book recommendations and enjoy a relaxed evening at the West Toowong Bowls Club. Books will be available for purchase thanks to our friends at Avid Reader and the bar will be open! The guest author in November is Frances Whiting, author of The Nocturnals N.B. This is a rescheduled event to replace our cancelled October event with Frances. If you bought a ticket to that event, you will be able to use it for this event. For any queries, please contact me via the 'Contact host' link above. About Frances Whiting Frances Whiting is one of Australia's best-known and favourite columnists. For more than twenty years, her weekly Sunday Mail column has engaged readers in the highs and lows and the wonderful of the everyday. She is also an award-winning journalist and senior feature writer for Q Weekend in the Courier-Mail. She has published two collections of her columns, Oh to Be a Marching Girl and That's a Home Run, Tiger!, and two novels, Walking on Trampolines and The Best Kind of Beautiful. About The Nocturnals From the bestselling author of The Best Kind of Beautiful, Frances Whiting, comes an endearing, wise and witty novel of love and friendship, which asks, how far would you go, to protect your friends? In the summer of 1997, five high school students meet. Nina, the Good Girl. Beatrice, The Poetess. Harriet, the Ghost. Cosmo, the Professor. And Hunter, the Golden Boy. In their last year of school, they become inseparable, five sides of the same star, until a fault line cracks between them, scattering them to all corners of the globe. Now, fifteen years later, Hunter has called them with his conch shell lips to return to the place where they lived and laughed and cried together, before secrets were whispered, and promises were broken. No-one knows why he has assembled them, but there is no question they will go. Because to outsiders, they might be, in turns, a little bit weird, a little bit glamorous, and a little bit dangerous. But to each other, they are, and always will be, The Nocturnals. From bestselling author Frances Whiting comes an irresistible, witty, darkly delightful and utterly endearing novel of friendship - and the lengths we will go to protect those who we love.
