Interacting with Parliament - Practice and Procedure 2026

This full-day seminar is designed to give public sector officers a detailed knowledge and understanding of the processes and procedures the Parliament uses to scrutinise the actions of Executive Government. Topics covered include: • Queensland's unicameral Parliament; • sources of Parliamentary procedure; • the Budget and Estimates processes; • scrutiny of the legislative process; • the cabinet process and public policy cycle, and • the role of a Minister at the parliamentary and Executive levels. Officers will have the opportunity to observe the Parliament at work during Question Time and also to participate in a session with a Minister to discuss the Minister's parliamentary and Executive roles and responsibilities. A tour of the Parliament and its historical environs is included. Designed for, but not restricted to, AO5 - S01 or equivalent classifications.
