Dr. Michael Lewis & Prof. Saso Ivanovski Join us on Friday 9th October for a 2-course Dinner & lecture presented by Prof. Saso Ivanovski & Dr. Michael Lewis. 3D Printed Scaffolds for Customised Bone Reconstruction Speaker: Prof. Saso Ivanovski Various clinical approaches have been proposed for the regeneration of peri-implant tissues, yet predictable outcomes remain elusive especially in challenging scenarios. Bioengineering approaches, involving a combination of different cell types, scaffolds and biologically active molecules, remain an active area of research. Among these, scaffolds are of particular interest as they address the key issues of space maintenance and control over the healing events within the presenting defect. This lecture will describe novel scaffold fabrication using advanced manufacturing, for the regeneration of clinically challenging peri-implant defects. Further, this presentation will explore the combination of these scaffolds with other biomaterials and biological mediators for enhanced clinical outcomes. The clinical translation of these novel constructs will be critically evaluated in the context of currently available clinical approaches and techniques. · Learning objectives: · What is the relative importance of scaffolds, cells and biologics in oral regeneration and reconstruction? · How translatable is the patient matched scaffold workflow to clinical practice? · What are the clinical technique considerations in utilizing patient matched resorbable scaffolds? Pretty in Pink: The Art of Prosthetic Cover-Up Speaker: Dr. Michael Lewis When the pink stuff disappears, sometimes you just have to fake it. Our ability to replace missing teeth flawlessly has become the norm. Replacing the soft tissues, however, is another story. The gingiva is the frame around the picture, and when that frame is missing, recreating it convincingly can be considerably more challenging. Using a case-based approach, this lecture explores the prosthetic management of missing hard and soft tissues across a range of clinical scenarios — from subtle anterior aesthetic defects through to complex full-arch reconstructions. We will examine the benefits, compromises and limitations of a prosthetic approach, discuss when pink ceramics can provide an elegant solution, and acknowledge some of those frustrating situations where, frankly, you just can't win. Because sometimes, the best soft-tissue graft is… porcelain.
