This introductory course will provide an opportunity for women with limited or no mountain biking experience to try the fun and social sport of mountain biking. The course is aimed at women wanting to learn mountain biking, for women new to the trails, and for women wanting to try a new way to exercise and enjoy the outdoors. The course is run in a safe and supportive environment by an experienced coach from Flow MTB Coaching. Hire bikes are available. The course sets riders up to be able to tackle trails on their own, with friends, and/or progress into joining the RATS Chicks Ride weekly social rides (the P-Plate ride once a month is a good place to start). The course comprises 2 x 2 - hour sessions. It is for all women, including transgender women. We welcome and support all who identify as women. If you don’t have your own bike, you can use a club-bike. Bike loan is available for an extra $20 when you register and is limited and only available for the course sessions. Select "bike required" in the registration section. This will cover the use for both sessions of the course. PLEASE NOTE – Hybrid bikes are not suitable for this course! What does the course content cover? The course provides a starting point for your mountain biking journey, designed to give you the skills to ride trails confidently. During the course you will learn a range of basic riding skills to prepare you for the trails, including body position, braking, and cornering. We will also introduce you to some easy trails, allowing you to take your adventures further at your own pace. Please note that the first session is a prerequisite for the second session. Thus you cannot miss the first session for whatever reason and expect to complete the second session as the course content is additive. If you are sick or injured then please make contact with us ASAP so we can advise on the best course of action When are the sessions? • Session 1 Sunday 11/10/26 1:00pm - 3:00pm • Session 2 Sunday 18/10/26 3:00pm - 5:00pm *Your registration will be to attend both sessions above for the one total price. Bike hire (where applicable) is for both sessions. Event numbers (and bikes) are limited so we encourage you to register early. Registration cut off is Saturday 10 October @ 5pm (unless sold out prior). What insurance do I need to attend the course? To take part in any RATS Cycling Club events you need insurance cover, and we recommend an AusCycling membership. You can get a free four-week trial AusCycling membership at: https://www.auscycling.org.au/membership/other/free-trial Insurance cover will be required to continue with RATS Cycling Club events such as the social rides (an AusCycling Lifestyle membership, or insurance cover from another body such as Bicycle Queensland is needed), and for races (an AusCycling Race membership or one-day licence is needed).
