The much anticipated frog photography night is finally here! Combining our love of frogs and photography with experts in their fields Cristy Froehlich (award-winning photographer) and Anke Maria Hoefer (ACT and region FrogWatch Coordinator), GCT is proud to be hosting this exciting event. This workshop aims to deliver a night time field experience that brings together nature photography, frog ecology, and citizen science. Participants will learn how to photograph frogs ethically, safely and effectively, while also understanding how their images can contribute to conservation outcomes through online platforms. Cristy Froehlich is a Canberra based photographer, educator and lifelong nature enthusiast with a particular passion for macro photography. With experience teaching photographers of all skill levels, Cristy enjoys making photography approachable and practical, from understanding focus and composition to ethics around photographing wildlife. For this frog focused event, Cristy will be on hand to share simple tips and techniques to help you get the most from your camera or phone and capture better photographs while observing frogs respectfully in their natural environment. Participants will be provided practical skills in photographing frogs in low and no light conditions and increase their understanding of frog biology, behaviour and identification features. Ethical wildlife photography will be a key focus of this event. All levels of photography are welcome. FrogWatch volunteers or anyone with an interest in frogs who may have minimal photography experience are also encouraged to attend, this workshop will give you valuable skills in learning the best way to photograph a frog for the purpose of identifying it later. This will be an enjoyable, inclusive and educational field based experience. The workshop will begin during the natural lighting of daylight and transition through dusk into darkness, this will support both learning and confidence building for participants new to night photography. What to bring: Camera or smartphone, headtorch or hand held torch, warm clothing, sturdy enclosed footwear. We will meet at the Shepherds Lookout Carpark (Murrumbidgee River Trekking Carpark on Google Maps), just off Stockdill Drive. The carpark is small so consider carpooling if that is an option for you. Please note there are no bathroom facilities on the site. In the case of adverse weather we will be in contact to postpone the event. We look forward to seeing you there!
