About this event

A University of Canberra affiliated schools symposium on culturally responsive pedagogy.

Full description from organizer

A University of Canberra Affilitated Schools and Centre for Advanced Studies in Education action research symposium Over two school terms, participating ACT primary teachers have explored practical pedagogical responses to the diverse needs of their students. Drawing on theory and ideas developed through professional learning workshops, each teacher redesigned a unit of learning, implemented changes in their classroom and collected data to explore their impact. Throughout the symposium, teachers will present their research findings and reflect on what they have learned through the process. Each presentation will be followed by an opportunity for questions and discussion, creating space to consider how research can inform and transform classroom practice. The day will also feature a keynote address from Dr Mikayla King, followed by an afternoon discussion and debrief with experts in the field, Emeritus Professor Robert Hattam, Professor Lester-Irabinna Rigney, Associate Professor Samantha Schulz, Dr. Abigail Diplock, Associate Professor Greg Vass, and Associate Professor Nadeem Memon. The symposium is designed for teachers and school leaders, academics, policymakers and other stakeholders interested in culturally responsive pedagogy, action research and innovative approaches to meeting diverse student needs. This is an TQI ACT Accredited Program for professional learning. Following the success of our inaugural symposium in 2026, we look forward to bringing together educators and researchers for another day of meaningful exchange and collaboration. Morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and refreshments will be provided.
