Grief Ritual

Grief is a fundamental human emotion, and creating conscious space and time to be-with our grief in the strength of community and collective witnessing feels like a practice as old as culture itself. What to Expect? Arriving, we’ll settle in, share a cuppa and some gentle warm-up activities. We’ll discuss shared expectations of the ritual space, so we’re all on the same page. Then, we’ll move into ceremony. Within the ceremony, we’ll make a shared altar, and offer ways to ritually express and share whatever grief is moving in you today. This might mean expressing your grief through talking, lamenting, moving, crying. Everyone present will form a part of the container, to witness and honour your grief. Within the circle, we won’t analyse or intellectualise your experience - we’ll just offer you the chance to express and explore as you need to. Once the ceremony is concluded, we’ll close the space, and gently emerge through some guided grounding. There’ll be a chance to stay around and chat over a cuppa. The circle is limited to 12 participants, to encourage an intimacy and relationship among everyone present. Any questions, or wondering if this is right for you? Get in touch. When? 2 - 5:30pm Saturday 25th April, 13th June, 22nd August, 31st October Each date is a one-off grief ritual, so you're very welcome to attend just one, several, or all of them; whatever your heart requires. Please note, you may wish to leave your Saturday evening clear after the event, to give yourself space to integrate however you need to after the grief ritual. Location? This event is held in the Zoë Dojo, a beautiful community sanctuary nestled in the foothills of kunanyi, right in the heart of Fern Tree. We will (most likely) be in the Mountain Studio - a wooden hexagonal building, with beautiful views of the mountain, and a feeling of sacredness. Location accessibility – There is a small step to access the Mountain Studio. The Studio is on the top of a hill, and while normally parking is at the bottom of the hill, there is limited accessibility parking right outside the door of the Mountain Studio. Please email me beforehand to let me know if you require this, so we make sure there's enough space for everyone. What to bring? Please bring along something to contribute to our shared altar space. You may also wish to bring along something that symbolises the grief you're carrying into this ritual. Also, your water bottle, a cushion or rug if you'd like one, any snacks/medication you'll need for the duration of our time together. Cost? This event is offered on a sliding scale, to ensure it's available for all. My suggested amount is between $20-$180. When choosing the amount to contribute, you may like to consider what you'd be willing to spend on other workshops or 1:1 therapeutic sessions, the amount of readily available funds you actually have right now, and what your heart calls for you to gift back to the energy of facilitating this work.
