Full description from organizer

Join us at TMAG for our November Lunchtime Talk with TasPorts' Tasmanian Harbour Master, Mick Wall. Lunchtime Talk: Mick Wall, Tasmanian Harbour Master Join us for our next Lunchtime Talk with Mick Wall, TasPorts’ Tasmanian Harbour Master. Mick brings more than three decades of maritime leadership, pilotage and port operations experience to the role. A Tasmanian resident since 1987, he previously served as Harbour Master and Marine Pilot with the former Port of Devonport Corporation before becoming TasPorts’ Marine Manager and a licensed Marine Pilot for Devonport, Bell Bay and Stanley. He later spent more than a decade as a Marine Pilot at Port Hedland, the world’s largest bulk export port, before returning to Tasmania in 2022 to take up the role of Tasmanian Harbour Master. Based in Launceston, Mick is responsible for overseeing navigational safety across TasPorts’ statewide port network, helping ensure safe and efficient marine operations while meeting regulatory requirements. In this presentation, Mick will draw on a career that has taken him from Tasmania to some of the world’s busiest ports, sharing insights from decades spent working across the maritime industry. He will also provide an in-depth look at the safety, compliance and risk management requirements that underpin vessel transits beneath the Tasman Bridge, offering a rare perspective on the planning and decision-making involved in moving large vessels safely through one of Hobart’s most significant maritime corridors. Known for his collaborative approach, Mick is passionate about supporting port users and building strong relationships across Tasmania’s maritime community. Maritime Museum of Tasmania Lunchtime Talks are supported by Arts Tasmania.
