Palawa food and cultural experience at Hobart library

Join Kitana Mansell for a cultural experience to learn about Palawa food culture, native ingredients, and Palawa history. Participants will explore a selection of Tasmanian native foods through touch, smell, and taste, while learning about traditional food practices, seasonal knowledge, and the importance of caring for Country. The two-hour experience combines cultural storytelling, native food education, interactive activities and tasting, with participants learning how traditional ingredients can be used in contemporary Palawa cooking. Led by Palawa Kipli’s Kitana Mansell, the experience provides an opportunity to learn directly from a young Palawa woman advocating for food sovereignty in Lutruwita / Tasmania and explore the continuing story of Palawa food culture today. From Country to plate, this is an opportunity to connect with Palawa culture through food. If you have any questions about the event or are unable to book online, please contact Hobart Library by email [email protected], phone (03) 6165 5597, or speak with library staff.
