Affirmative Consent Essentials Build your knowledge and confidence to have important conversations that support young people to practice affirmative consent Young people, and the key adults that support them, need the knowledge, skills and confidence to have conversations about consent and practice affirmative consent. Affirmative Consent Essentials is an interactive training workshop designed for people who work with young people (15–25 years) in youth and community settings. The training is an opportunity to learn more about Victoria's affirmative consent laws and to build confidence to have conversations about consent with young people. Affirmative Consent Essentials training incorporates learnings and resources from WHIN’s youth-led affirmative consent project, Taking ACtion: Affirmative consent in the North. Who should attend? People who work with young people in youth and community services including youth workers, community engagement officers, support and outreach workers. Why attend? You’ll leave this workshop with greater understanding of Victoria’s affirmative consent laws and the confidence to have conversations about consent with young people in community settings. Conversations about consent build a culture of consent – a powerful tool for preventing sexual and gender-based violence. The training covers: • Key concepts that underpin affirmative consent • What is consent? • Consent and the law • Affirmative consent reforms that came into effect on 30 July 2023 • Consent and young people – context, concepts, conversations • Next steps: action planning. What to expect: • In person event with peers from different organisations • A welcoming and inclusive space • Clear, accessible information • Expert facilitators • Opportunities to ask questions • Discussions and group activities. Learning outcomes: • Increased understanding of affirmative consent including the Victoria's legislative reforms. • Increased understanding of the importance of affirmative consent and key concepts that underpin conversations about consent with young people. • Increased confidence to have conversations about consent with young people. • Access to a range of resources to support your practice. Registration Places are limited. Registration for the training is essential.
