About the Film We follow the tumultuous life of Pu Yi, the last emperor of China, from his coronation as a toddler in the Forbidden City - where, long after his forced abdication in 1912, a new English tutor opens his mind to the world beyond its walls - to his reinvention as Japan's puppet emperor of Manchukuo, and finally his years as a prisoner of the new People's Republic. Chen stars as Wanrong, Pu Yi's wife, in the role that brought her international acclaim after her early stardom in China.
