Full description from organizer

Food insecurity has a profound impact on student health and wellbeing. Join Study Melbourne for a thoughtful and practical exploration of the latest research, local government initiatives, and student led programs that are making a difference. This session looks beyond financial hardship to explore the broader social role of food — how shared meals, cooking, and access to culturally familiar food can help foster friendship, belonging, and stronger community connections. Hear from PhD researcher Sara Guest from the University of Melbourne, who will share key findings from her research and discuss food insecurity through the lens of culture, affordability, campus life, access to food facilities, charities and more. With a large student population living in the CBD, Adele Parris from the Community Wellbeing Team at the City of Melbourne will showcase the breadth of food programs available to international students right now — from meals, groceries and cooking classes through to The Couch, a standout student-led initiative combining food support with social connection. More than food, these programs are building lively student communities. This session is ideal for education providers and PBSAs looking to gain a deeper understanding of how to support the health, nutrition and wellbeing of students. Morning tea provided
