Floriography: The Language of Flowers

Join the Hunter Valley Literary, Cake and Flower Society for 3h workshop exploring the fascinating Victorian language of flowers. Known as Floriography, this floral code allowed people to communicate secret messages and sentiments through carefully chosen blooms. We will also discover the tradition of the Tussie-Mussie, a small bouquet designed to convey a hidden message. During this relaxed and creative workshop, participants will learn about the meanings behind a variety of flowers before creating their own personal flower dictionaries to take home. Using a wonderful collection of pressed flowers, you'll then design a range of floral creations including cards, gift tags and miniature artworks that carry their own special meanings. Whether you are a flower enthusiast, a lover of literature, or simply enjoy a creative afternoon with like-minded people, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to explore history, symbolism, and art in a welcoming setting. All materials are supplied, including: • Pressed flowers and creative materials • Cards, tags and art supplies • Light refreshments of cake, punch, tea, and coffee served in vintage cups Come along for an afternoon of flowers, creativity, conversation, and cake, and discover the hidden language blooming within every petal. Sugar Valley Library Museum, kirantakamyari The Sugar Valley Library Museum, kirantakamyari is located at the Cameron Park Plaza complex, on Portland Drive Cameron Park. There is dedicated Museum parking and accessible parking available adjacent to the building. The venue has accessible bathrooms. The venue is easily accessed by public buses. This event may be photographed and filmed, and your image could be used in advertising and promotion by Lake Macquarie City Council.
