Full description from organizer

A 4-hour interactive workshop involving practical role play and role modelling scenarios to improve engagement and relationships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people. Presented by Auspire - Australia Day Council WA and facilitated by a First Nations’ leader within a culturally safe and inclusive space, this workshop applies knowledge, theory and concepts of Aboriginal experiences and perspectives into scenarios and exercises that participants can use in real life today. Some knowledge of Aboriginal history and culture is advantageous, but not essential. Topics include: • How to engage, communicate and work with Aboriginal people including cultural protocols • Understanding micro aggressions and unconscious bias • Respecting significant sites/heritage areas • Understanding cultural safety and how to work towards it • Sources and solutions to racism • Awareness of white privilege and white fragility. This is the opportunity to put theory into action and discover how we can all walk together for a positive future. If you feel there are gaps in your knowledge of Aboriginal culture and history, our Bridging the Knowledge Gap workshop might be for you. Please book by 4 November. Attendees receive afternoon tea and a certificate of participation. Thanks to the support of Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA, pricing is heavily subsidised. A tax invoice is provided for tax purposes. Please note this workshop is authentic and as such may contain or allude to strong language that could be considered offensive to some participants. Please be advised this session may include photography. By booking tickets to this event, you agree to subscribe to our newsletter to receive our latest news and information.
