About this event

A practical field lab lets construction and engineering teams test AI on RFI and variation workflows.

Full description from organizer

Practical field lab for construction and engineering teams to test AI on RFI and variation workflows, assess risks, and identify opportuniti AI can help reduce administrative workload, but in construction and engineering, it needs to work within clear safety, approval, and document-control boundaries. RFIs, variations, controlled documents, and approval processes can take up significant time and create pressure across project teams. This practical Field Lab gives construction firms, engineering consultancies, and trades businesses a structured way to explore where AI could support these workflows without replacing professional judgement or established responsibilities. You will examine common workflow pressures, explore where AI can assist, and test practical scenarios using fictional RFI and variation material. The session focuses on practical AI integration, workflow improvement, risk management, document control, and responsible use. Rather than simply discussing what AI could do, you will leave with a clearer view of which opportunities are worth testing, where the risks sit, and what should remain firmly under human control. Who this is for This Field Lab is designed for professionals working across construction, engineering, trades, and project support, including: • Construction firms and contractors • Engineering consultancies • Trades and specialist businesses • Project managers and coordinators • Contracts and commercial teams • Document control and administration staff • Office and operational teams supporting construction projects A mix of site and office participants is encouraged, as different roles can bring valuable perspectives when assessing workflow opportunities. What we will do together • Map key pressures: Identify where administration, documentation, scheduling, margin, and compliance create opportunities for improvement. • Set practical boundaries: Clarify where AI should not replace WHS responsibilities, professional sign-off, approval authority, or controlled-document processes. • Explore RFI workflows: Test where AI may assist with reviewing, structuring, summarising, or preparing responses to fictional RFI material. • Explore variation workflows: Examine potential AI support for fictional variation documentation while maintaining appropriate human review. • Score AI opportunities: Assess potential use cases based on value, feasibility, risk, and implementation considerations. • Build a 30-day action plan: Select a priority opportunity and define practical next steps for testing or implementation. What you will take home You will develop practical resources during the Field Lab, including: • A Construction and Engineering Problem Brief • A Controlled-Document and Approval Matrix • A tested AI Workflow Canvas • A Scored AI Opportunity Map • A practical 30-Day AI Integration Plan These resources will help you move from general interest in AI to a more structured approach to workflow improvement, operational efficiency, and responsible AI integration. Good to know This is a practical, sector-focused session using fictional RFI and variation examples, so you can explore AI opportunities without sharing confidential project, commercial, client, or organisational information. Existing WHS duties, professional judgement, contractual authority, and document-control requirements remain with the appropriate people. No advanced technical experience is required. Bring your knowledge of the workflows, bottlenecks, and administrative challenges your team deals with every day. ========================================== Refund and Cancellation Policy Cancellation Windows • 14+ days before: Full transfer to another session or course credit (less platform fees).
