Art Gym is a weekly art meet up, led by award winning visual artist and Archibald finalist, Desiree Crossing. Join our very small group of art enthusiasts in the cosy secret room at Le Vivant, Highgate, and immerse yourself in a world of art. Every week we explore a new aspect of art making, from demystifying oil painting, academic drawing techniques, art lectures and folio critiques. 1st Thursday of the month is devoted to academic drawing techniques. Traditionally taught in European ateliers, this style of drawing became the standard during the 1800s and is still taught today. It trains your eye and is a wonderful foundation for drawing, painting and other art forms. 2nd Thursday of the month is Alla Prima painting in oils. we will work from a photo reference or a still life. 'Alla prima' or 'wet on wet' technique is a direct painting technique, intended to be completed in one sitting. Perfect for fresh paintings, working with a model or plein air painting, this technique strengthens your brush work, and is particularly useful training if you are inclined towards perfectionism. 3rd Thursday of the month is a wild card lesson :D The 4th Thursday of the month is BYO project, for you to work on your own artwork, with guidance and feedback from Desiree. www.instagram.com/desireecrossing All art materials will be provided for the session, but of course you are welcome to bring your own if you wish.
