Elemental Bodies

A seasonal gathering of somatics and yoga, Chinese medicine knowledge & mindful living. Elemental Bodies: The Art of Spring Saturday 7 November, 12–3pm Sullivan Hall, Fremantle Please bring your own yoga mat, cushions, blankets and a journal. Elemental Bodies is an ongoing workshop series exploring the seasons through trauma-informed yoga, somatic movement and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Drawing on the relationship between the body, the natural world and changing seasonal rhythms, each workshop will offer space to slow down, tune in and explore hwo to fine tune your relationship with your body within the natural world. The sessions invite you to move at your own pace, honour your boundaries and engage in ways that feel comfortable for you. Our first gathering turns towards spring and the Wood element, associated in Chinese medicine with the Liver, growth, movement and the free flow of Qi. Here on Noongar Country, we are in Kambarang, a season of second spring, abundance and renewal. As the natural world continues to open and transform, we are invited to consider what is ready to shift within us, and how we might make space for new growth without rushing to bloom. Through gentle somatic movement, we will explore ways of shifting stagnant energy, softening held tension and restoring a sense of flow, while remaining attentive to our own capacity and pace. Restorative yoga, massage and TCM-inspired practices will offer space for deeper rest and integration, before we gather over tea for a moment of reflection. An invitation to move gently, loosen our grip and find our own rhythm within the changing season. No yoga experience necessary, this event is open to everyone. About us: Maile is a yoga teacher and writer whose practice explores the relationships between the body, rest and our connection to the wider world. She completed 350 hours of yoga teacher training, specialising in Iyengar and restorative yoga, nine years ago, and has since continued her studies in somatics, embodied practice and trauma-sensitive approaches to yoga, including a 50-hour certificate in Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY). Having facilitated workshops and retreats, Maile brings together movement, rest and opportunities for reflection. Her teaching is grounded in a trauma-informed approach that centres choice, curiosity and personal agency, creating space for people to engage with their bodies in ways that feel right for them. With a particular interest in restorative practices, she explores how embodied ways of being can shape not only our relationship with ourselves, but also how we relate to one another, our communities and the living world. Her practice remains an ongoing process of learning, listening and discovery. Saskia is a second-year Chinese medicine and acupuncture student, doula in training and creative with a love for music and songwriting. With a strong interest in holistic health, birthwork and women's health, she is passionate about supporting others to feel good in their bodies and develop a deeper understanding of their own wellbeing. Saskia is drawn to the connection between body and mind, and the many ways we can nurture our health through food, rest and mindful living.
