Nature Care Day - 6 November 2026

Nature Care days are much more than just volunteering—they’re a chance to reconnect with nature, contribute to meaningful ecological restoration, and be part of a long-term impact on our local environment. This is your opportunity to work directly on the vital Bilya Restoration Project along the Helena River! About the Site - Helena River (Bilya Restoration Project): Nestled along the lower floodplain of the Swan River, the Helena River site is a crucial riparian ecosystem. This area is one of our longest standing but most complex restoration projects, located out the back of the Trillion Trees grounds and nursery in Hazelmere. It is a vital refuge that we are actively working to restore, rebuilding local plant communities to provide habitat to the many remnant fauna species in the area. • Home to: Western Long Neck Turtles, Rakali (native water rat), Brush Tailed Possums, and a large variety of bird species. • Key Species: We focus on bolstering crucial plants like Carex appressa (Tall sedge) and Juncus pallidus (Pale Rush), essential for habitat, riverbank stabilisation, and improving water quality. • The Project: We are engaging with the local community to raise awareness about the ecological value and benefits of restoring this important biodiverse area. Every task directly supports the survival and success of native plantings and helps create healthier habitats for wildlife. Location: Helena River (Hazelmere) which is on site at Trillion Trees Australia, Stirling Crescent, Corner Amherst Rd, Hazelmere WA 6055. (Please input “Trillion Trees” into google maps for accurate directions) Date: Friday 6 November 2026 Time: Please arrive by 8.45am for a 9:00am start. We expect to finish by approximately 12pm. Parking: There is ample parking on site. Meeting spot: Upon arrival, check in at reception for guidance to the designated work area. What to Expect: Nature Care Days are hands-on and rewarding. Your team may partake in critical restoration activities such as: • Enhancing native plant corridors (e.g., careful competition reduction through weeding to protect young plants). • Protecting and nourishing soil (e.g., watering and applying mulch to retain moisture). • Site tidy-up to prepare for future planting seasons. The session will be led by our restoration manager, supported by experienced restoration volunteers who will demonstrate best-practice techniques and support you throughout the morning. What to Bring & Wear • Gardening gloves (optional but recommended) • A refillable water bottle • Hat and sunglasses • Sturdy footwear – sneakers or boots are recommended • Suitable outdoor wear • Snacks We kindly ask that attendees avoid bringing disposable items where possible.
