School readiness and emotional regulation: For children and their adults SING MOVE REGULATE X VPCC EVENT SHP@VPCC

This may include children who are bright, creative and capable, but who still find everyday routines, social situations, classroom expectations or emotional moments difficult to navigate. Facilitated by local educators from Sing Move Regulate, this unique and inclusive program uses sound, rhythm, invitational movement and mindfulness strategies to support the development of emotional regulation and skills for school readiness. Paula draws on occupational therapy resources to educate children and empower adults about body signals and body-mind communication. Everyday challenges they can help with: - Bedtime routines that might end in stress in conflict; - Children who become overwhelmed by noise, people, change or expectations; - Social situations where children misread expected social cues, or display sensitivity to perceived sense of rejection - Big feelings that escalate quickly - Moving from home to school, kindy to childcare Through safe spaces like these children are supported to: * Recognise and express their emotions and needs * Build self-awareness and confidence * Explore emotional regulation strategies used in clinical settings * Strengthen communication and social skills * Practise their school readiness skills * Explore the role of movement in body awareness and emotional regulation Free take-home resources will also be available for families to continue learning and practising emotional regulation at home. There will be time at the end for parents to discuss any questions regarding the workshop with Paula. This workshop is suitable for children aged 4–7 years and is inclusive to ALL children and their caregivers.
