Meaningful Work for You: How to Find it or Create it - Sunshine Coast 2026

About the event: Everyone can work! Having a job is an important part of a good life. It allows us to earn a living, to contribute, to develop our skills, as well as build relationships and be part of our community. This workshop is for people with disability who want to work in open employment but have found that the traditional pathways don’t always lead to the jobs you want. In this interactive workshop, get started in working out what sort of job would be right for you, and learn about different ways to work towards it, including creating employment opportunities that matches your skills and interests. Download the accessible flyer here (word) Download the flyer (PDF) About the Presenter: Nellie Godwin-Welch has grown up as a sister to someone with complex disabilities, and was exposed to CRU’s work as part of building a good life for their sibling from a young age. Nellie has spent the last decade working in the disability sector, as a direct support worker, case manager, Circle of Support facilitator and mentor. Nellie has supported individuals, alongside their families, to find employment, move into their own home, start their own micro-businesses, study, volunteer and build friendships and relationships. Who Should Attend? This workshop is for people with disability who want to work. It will be particularly useful for people with developmental disabilities, their families, friends and workers. Whether you have just started thinking about work, or are interested in trying or doing something different, this workshop is for you! Although you are welcome to come on your own, we encourage you to invite a family member, friend or support worker to join you to help with planning on the day. Everyone who attends the workshop will need to be registered, but if the cost is a barrier to attending or bringing supporters along with you, then please get in touch to discuss with us. Cost to attend: People with disability and family members: • Standard price for this workshop is $30. • If the cost is a barrier, please choose the Concession Rate, $10. • If you would like to support CRU’s work you can choose the Supporter Rate, $50. Workers, friends and allies: • The price for workers, professionals, friends and allies is $100. Every person who attends needs to register. Due to venue and catering costs, CRU is not able to fully participate in the companion card scheme, however, if a worker is attending to provide support for an attendee with disability, we will offer a reduced fee at the standard rate. Using Your NDIS Funding at CRU For self-managing and plan-managed NDIS participants, you can see the Learning Objectives below to decide if this is a reasonable and necessary support to help you (or your family member) achieve their goals. Learning Objectives At this workshop you will: • Learn how to come up with job ideas based on what you are good at and interested in. • Work out the things that will set you up to do well in a job. • Hear about different and creative ways to find meaningful work. • Bring all the parts together and figure out your next steps. • Start to develop innovative ways to tell workplaces about yourself. • Learn about things that will help you keep meaningful work once you have it.
