Full description from organizer

What Will Make Money in 2027 with OfOliver + Industry Guests A practical end-of-year conversation on the business, creative and commercial reality of being an image maker. This session is built around the questions most photographers should probably be asking more honestly. What actually made money this year? What work disappeared? What clients came back? What gear actually mattered? What was a waste of time? What did people try that worked, and what looked good online but did not turn into paid work? In Image Maker Debrief: What Will Make Money in 2027, Oliver Minnett will sit down with working industry guests to talk through what the year has looked like from the inside, and what photographers should be thinking about as they head into 2027. The guest lineup is still TBA, because this session is eight months away, but the goal is to bring in photographers and image makers who have actually been doing the work. People who have shot real jobs, managed clients, quoted properly, tested new ideas, bought gear, made mistakes, found opportunities, and learned what the market is actually asking for. This is not a motivation panel. It is a practical debrief. The conversation will cover the commercial side of photography without pretending there is one perfect path. We’ll talk about clients, pricing, quoting, usage, campaign work, content demands, social media, gear, creative direction, repeat business, and how photographers are positioning themselves for the year ahead. The aim is to give attendees a more honest view of what is working now, what might work next, and where photographers should be putting their time, energy and money if they want to build a more sustainable creative business. Questions we’ll cover What actually made money this year? The types of jobs, clients and creative work that were commercially worth chasing. What looked good online but did not pay? The shoots, trends or content strategies that created attention but did not turn into meaningful work. Where did clients spend, and where did they pull back? How budgets shifted, what clients valued, and what photographers had to adapt to. What kinds of images are brands actually paying for? How campaign work, social assets, ecommerce, lifestyle, content, portraits and video are changing. How are photographers getting booked? Referrals, agencies, direct outreach, Instagram, websites, repeat clients, production companies and word of mouth. What makes someone worth hiring in 2027? The skills, habits and professional standards that make photographers easier to trust with paid work. How should photographers think about pricing and usage? What newer photographers get wrong when quoting, and how experienced photographers approach scope, deliverables and value. What gear actually mattered this year? The cameras, lenses, lighting, modifiers, workflow tools and small practical items that genuinely helped on paid jobs. What gear was overhyped? The purchases or trends that did not make as much difference as people expected. What creative tests were worth doing? The personal projects, portfolio shoots, lighting tests or self-initiated campaigns that led somewhere. What mistakes cost time, money or momentum? The lessons that came from bad briefs, unclear expectations, underquoting, poor planning or chasing the wrong work. What should photographers stop doing? The habits, content styles, business choices or creative distractions that are holding people back. What should photographers focus on in 2027? Where the opportunities might be, what skills matter more, and how image makers can position themselves for the next year. Who it’s for This session is for photographers, videographers and image makers who want a more grounded view of the creative industry. It is especially useful for people moving from portfolio work into paid work, photographers trying to build better clients, assistants trying to understand the business, and creatives who want to know where the market is actually heading. If you are trying to figure out what to shoot, what to charge, what gear to invest in, how to get better clients, or what kind of work might actually make money in 2027, this is for you. What you’ll walk away with You will leave with a clearer understanding of what is happening in the working photography world, from people who are actually in it. The goal is not to give you a neat formula. It is to help you make better decisions about your work, your gear, your clients, your marketing and the kind of image maker you want to become in 2027.
