• Comparison between corded and cordless models • Common applications in construction, carpentry, and home improvement Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) • Required PPE for various tool operations (eye, ear, respiratory, and hand protection) • Proper use and maintenance of PPE Battery & Charging Safety • Safe battery handling and charging procedures • Battery types (Li-Ion vs. NiMH) and care • Recognizing signs of battery damage or failure Workspace Safety & Setup • Identifying and eliminating common hazards • Organizing a safe and efficient workspace • Proper lighting and ventilation considerations Tool Safety Techniques • Preventing kickback and avoiding binding • Choosing appropriate blades and bits • Dust management (dust extractors, masks, vacuums) Hands-On Exercise • Tool inspection before use • Safe handling and adjustments (changing blades, setting depth, securing material) Hands-On Tool Operation Circular Saw • Adjusting blade depth and angle • Techniques for straight and bevelled cuts • Hands-On: Practice straight, cross, and angled cuts Jig Saw • Blade types (fine vs. coarse) and material matching • Techniques for curved and intricate cuts • Hands-On: Cut curves, circles, and irregular patterns Mitre Saw • Understanding bevel vs. mitre cuts • Locking angles and safe operation • Hands-On: Perform angled and compound cuts Reciprocating Saw • Blade types for different materials (wood, metal, demolition) • Controlling the saw during aggressive cuts • Hands-On: Practice demolition and rough cuts Drill & Driver • Selecting the right bit for the job • Drill speed settings, torque adjustment • Hands-On: Drill pilot holes, countersink screws, drive fasteners Angle Grinder • Choosing grinding vs. cutting discs • Safe handling and spark control • Hands-On: Grind welds, cut through metal or masonry Multi-Tool (Oscillating Tool) • Attachment types: blades, scrapers, sanding pads • Ideal uses: plunge cuts, detail sanding, trimming • Hands-On: Make plunge cuts, trim flush edges, and detail sand Orbital & Palm Sanders • Differences in sanding motions and applications • Grit selection and dust collection systems • Hands-On: Smooth surfaces, prep wood for finishing Extended Practical Exercises Rotating Workstations Participants rotate through multiple stations using various tools on real materials (wood, metal, gypsum) All tools, consumables and PPE will be provided. All participants are asked to wear closed, toe shoes, appropriate clothing that may get dirty.
