Movement and Embodied Practices in Arts and Health

Join visiting Canadian researchers Rebecca Barnstaple and Naila Kuhlmann, for an interactive session exploring the role of creative movement and embodied practice in arts and health research. Hosted live at St Peters Town Hall Sydney, the workshop will begin with an opportunity to experience some of the creative movement-based and embodied approaches that Rebecca and Naila use in their work. Through guided activities, attendees will be invited to explore how this creative practice can become a form of collective inquiry, communication, and care. Beginning with lived, sensory experience, Rebecca and Naila will share how arts-based, co-creative approaches offer space for patient voices and participation, open new avenues for arts-in-health initiatives, and bridge across disciplines and knowledge domains. Drawing on examples from their own projects, they will trace how such embodied encounters generate co-constructed knowledge, and how creative approaches can help us better understand wellbeing, connection, and the complexities of health. The session will conclude with a discussion of their research outcomes and a conversation about the growing role of creative and embodied practices in health research, education, and care. *Tickets to attend the event virtually are also available.
