On October 8, step into the world of “Allah n’est pas obligé ” based on the cult novel by Ahmadou Kourouma (1927–2003), one of the most important Ivorian writers of the twentieth century, brought to life through animation. Birahima, a Guinean orphan boy of about ten, leaves his village to cross the border and find his aunt in Liberia. He follows in the footsteps of Yacouba, a smooth talker posing as a leader. But along the way, an encounter with child soldiers changes his fate forever. Forcibly recruited, Birahima ends up on the path of war. What awaits him in this world of chaos and violence? “Allah is not obliged to be fair in all the things he has made here below.” This is the film’s leitmotif, repeated throughout Birahima’s story.
