Duffeleer works with images and situations whose meaning cannot easily be pinned down. Archetypes are stripped of their self-evidence. What remains is often a tension between the absurd and the inevitable, between certainty and unease, between the everyday and the existential. Pauwaert explores the relationship between power, beauty and poetry, balancing the imposing and the monumental with playfulness, caricature and wonder. Neither takes things at face value. The self-evident is called into question. An image reveals meaning depending on the context in which it appears.
